UG celebrates it's 7th birthday with a mammoth lineup spread across 2 weekends!
Friday 17th October Uncanny isn't it, and pretty conclusive I think you'll agree. But if you want to be really lucky you need to get yourself down and get involved with these superlucky 7th birthday parties of major cosmic significance. They look a little something like this. Part One takes place in DQ, a venue that's becoming a bit of an UG birthday staple. This homelier haunt will play host to the tremendous treat of a special back to back set from UG favourites Meat Katie and Elite Force. These two toppermost purveyors of tech-funk breaks are joining forces to celebrate not only UG's birthday, but also the release of Meat Katie's Sessions album for Ministry of Sound. But mostly the former. Probably. A week later the action returns to Plug for a kick ass Part Two, headlined by UG Superresidents Evil Nine, who'll be bringing their new live project to the club for the very first time. Rumours suggest the live show involves Evil Tom on bass & vocals, Evil Pat on midi bass and vocoder, longtime collaborator Juice Aleem MC'ing, a live drummer and a live VJ, which all sounds pretty special, and seems to involve a lot of bass. In fact, it's so special that we're turning it into our very first UG live gig. UG will be in 2 rooms and the Evils will be given carte blanche to lay waste to the Live room with their incredible show. We've been told to expect birthday treats including live re-workings of “Restless”, “Pearlshot” and “Crooked” as well as tracks from their their highly anticipated new album “They Live”. Support comes from Sheffield's premiere live electroheads Darlings of the Splitscreen, who are fresh from rocking Reading Festival. They grew up on a healthy diet of UG, and it's made them turn out ace. But that's just the beginning, as after this mindblowing live thingy extraordinary service is resumed. Evil Nine will be coming with to all but finish us off with an extra and special DJ set, they'll be joined by the floorsmashing sounds of Sinden, and the marathon party keeps on keeping on (like this sentence) later at DQ with an afterparty set courtesy of the mighty Trevor Loveys. These two other headliners first grabbed our attention when collaborating with and perhaps even being Switch, but went on to carve impeccable and mahoosive reputations of their own (you may for example have heard “Beeper” or any number of Sinden / Trevor Loveys / Speakerjunk / Machines Don't Care etc anthems tearing up the place). Expect eclectic earbouncing dancemaking bootjunk with generous dashes of funtime party. It promises to be as ace as that last sentence (or much more ace if you didn't like it). All this plus the residents knocking seven shades of something out of your dancing feet makes for one big unmissable birthday in two sizable parts. Seven clearly is your lucky number. |
